Want to Do-It-Yourself?

Consider this when choosing the right material for your fence project:

Most residential homes use ornamental, chain-link, wood, or vinyl fencing. Consider these features:

Wood:  A traditional favorite, wood comes in a wide variety of styles, including post and rail, split rail, picket, and privacy.
It can be left natural, stained, or painted and is a popular choice in fencescaping and outdoor living applications.  Privacy and picket styles are ideal for protecting children and pets and enclosing pools.

Ornamental: This elegant material looks like wrought iron, but is more durable and cost-effective. Ornamental fencing can be made from steel or aluminum, and is available in various colors and decorative accessories, such as scrolls. Rings, and finials.  Requiring little maintenance, ornamental is popular for pool fencing, fencescaping, and safety for children.

Chain Link: This low-cost fence is perfect for keeping pets and children contained in the yard and enclosing swimming pools.  Color-coated varieties in green, black, brown are often used to “disappear” into landscapes.  Smaller diamonds in the fabric may be required when used to enclose a swimming pool to prevent climbing.

Vinyl: Low maintenance vinyl is available in post and rail, picket, and privacy styles.  Several color choices are available, including white, tan, and gray. Most often, these fences are used in fencescaping and outdoor living, but vinyl privacy and picket can also be used to secure pools and create a safe environment for children and pets.
